Photo Contest 2010

“Human Diversity at CERN:

visual variations and insights

into the diversity of people”

Deadline: April 23, 2010

This contest is jointly organized by the CERN Equal Opportunities Team and the CERN Photo Club and is open to everyone working at CERN. You are invited to explore the unlimited variations of human nature in the context of your work at CERN.

Capture the diversity of professional style, gender, age, ethnic origin, physical ability or any other of the many facets of diversity. Delve deep inside human nature, bring out the different ways in which people perform their jobs, explore individual capabilities and working styles, highlight the advantages that the diversity of its people brings to CERN as an organization!

The emphasis is on creativity, intuition and cultural empathy. There is no need for sophisticated photographic equipment.

Prizes will be awarded for the top 10 photos. The best entries will be displayed in an exhibition in May in the Main Building and on the website of the CERN Photo Club.

CONDITIONS OF PARTICIPATION

1. Submitted photos must comply with the theme of the contest.
2. The contest is open to everyone except members of the jury and professional photographers. The latter are nevertheless welcome to contribute photos to the exhibition without submitting them for entry to the competition.
3. Deadline for submission: April 23, 2010
4. All the photos submitted must be taken by the participants themselves. Participants are asked to submit only their own work, free of any copyright other than their own copyright in the photograph(s). If photographing the work of others, it must be as part of the environment and not as a close-up of another person's art.
5. Photos must not violate the rights of third parties. Participants are asked to respect people's privacy, including in their workplace. If the  photograph(s) include(s) a recognizable person or people, the photographer must secure permission from each person (or in the case of a minor, the minor's parent or guardian) to use his/her image in the photo contest.
6. The copyright of the photo remains with the photographer. By submitting a photograph for the photo contest, the participant grants CERN as well as the CERN Photo Club a royalty-free, perpetual, non-exclusive license for the publication and display, in any medium, of the photograph(s) in connection with the photo contest and Equal Opportunities. The photographer will be acknowledged in any such publication or display.
7. Each participant may submit up to four photos.  Both colour and black and white photos will be accepted.
8. Prints or digital images may be submitted.
9. In the case of prints, the preferred print size is 17x24 cm or larger; each print may be accompanied by a title or a key phrase.
   
10. An entry may comprise several photos collectively conforming to the theme. If the photos represented on such an entry have been taken by different photographers then the authors may submit the final entry collectively. If a print is submitted than the digital version may be requested by the organizers.
11. Prints must be sent to Fons Rademakers or Doris Chromek-Burckhart at the addresses listed below. The name and contact address of the photographer must be written on the back of the print.
12. In the case of digital images, they must be in JPG format, minimum size 5 MPixel.  Photographic manipulation is allowed.  The selected images will be printed by the CERN Photo Club.
    
13. Digital images must not be watermarked.
14. Digital entries must be sent by e-mail to cern.diversity.photos@gmail.com (one image per e-mail). The filename of the image must be the name of the photographer followed by a sequence number. (Example: MyfirstnameMylastname1.jpg)
15. By submitting a print or digital image the photographer agrees to these conditions of participation and agrees to hold CERN and the CERN Photo Club free and harmless from any liability relating to the submitted work.
16. The organizers may, at their discretion and without giving any justification, decide not to publish or display submitted photographs, in particular where it is considered that these conditions of participation are not met.

USE OF IMAGES

The CERN Photo Club reserves the right to publicly display and to publish the selected photos in CERN-related publications.

RETURN OF ENTRIES

Participants must provide a stamped addressed envelope if they wish their photos to be returned.

variations visuelles et regards

sur la diversité parmi les humains”

Ce concours est organisé conjointement par le Groupe consultatif sur l’égalité des chances et le Club Photo du CERN, et est ouvert à tout un chacun travaillant au CERN. Le thème vous invite à explorer les possibilités illimitées de la nature humaine dans le cadre de votre travail au CERN.

Captez la diversité en styles professionnels, sexes, ages, origines ethniques, capacités physiques ou tout autre aspect lié à la diversité. Plongez dans la nature humaine, illustrez les différentes façons dont vos collègues s’acquittent de leur tâches, explorez les capacités individuelles et les styles de travail, bref, mettez en valeur la richesse que la diversité apporte à notre Organisation !

Nul besoin d’avoir du matériel sophistiqué, faites preuve de créativité, d’intuition et d’empathie culturelle.

Les dix meilleures photos seront récompensées, les meilleures images seront exposées lors  d'une exposition au bâtiment principal du CERN au mois de mai, et seront publiées sur les pages web du Club Photo.

Avez-vous une bonne plume ? Envoyez-nous donc une citation d’une ou deux phrases maximum à l’adresse cern.diversity.quotes@gmail.com , décrivant ce qu’est d’après vous la diversité.  Les citations (vous pouvez rester anonyme si vous le voulez) serviront à agrémenter l’exposition photo.

CONDITIONS DE PARTICIPATION

1. Toutes les photos doivent respecter le thème du concours.
2. Le concours est ouvert à tous, sauf aux membres du jury et aux photographes professionnels. Ceux-ci peuvent toutefois contribuer par des photos hors-concours.
3. Date limite de soumission : 23 avril 2010.
4. Toutes les photos soumises doivent être prises par le participant en personne. Les participants ne peuvent soumettre que leur travail personnel, libre de tout droit autre que leur propre droit d’auteur. Si vous photographiez l’œuvre d’une autre personne, elle doit faire partie de l’environnement et ne doit pas constituer un plan rapproché de l'art d'une autre personne.
5. Les photos doivent respecter les droits des tiers. Les participants sont invités à respecter l'intimité des personnes, y compris sur leur lieu de travail. Si la photo inclut une personne ou un groupe reconnaissables, le photographe doit obtenir la permission de chaque personne (ou dans le cas d'un mineur, du parent du mineur ou de son représentant légal) d’utiliser son image dans ce concours de photo.
6. Le droit d’auteur de la photo reste propriété du photographe. En soumettant une photo pour le concours de photo, le participant donne au CERN et au Club Photo du CERN un droit sans redevance, perpétuel et non exclusif pour la publication et l’affichage, sur n'importe quel support, des photos en liaison avec le concours de photo et l’Égalité des Chances. Le photographe sera mentionné dans chaque publication ou affichage.
   
7. Chaque participant peut soumettre jusqu’à quatre photos maximum, en couleur ou en noir & blanc.
8. Aussi bien les tirages papiers que les photos numériques sont acceptées.
9. Pour les tirages papier : dimension minimale 17 X 24 cms. Chaque photo peut être accompagnée d’un titre ou d’une phrase-clé.
10. Un seul tirage peut comporter plusieurs images. Au cas où un tel tirage est réalisé à partir de photos prises par des personnes différentes, le tirage peut être soumis collectivement par toutes ces personnes.
11. Les tirages papiers doivent être envoyés à l’adresse de Fons Rademakers ou Doris Chromek-Burckhart (voir adresse plus loin). Le tirage doit mentionner au dos le nom du photographe ainsi qu’une adresse de contact (adresse postale ou adresse email).
12. Photos numériques : format JPG, taille minimum du fichier 5 méga pixels, le traitement numérique par un logiciel photo est accepté. Les images sélectionnées seront imprimées par le Club Photo.
    
13. Les photos numériques ne doivent pas porter de mention en filigrane.
14. Les photos numériques doivent être adressées par email à cern.diversity.photos@gmail.com . (une photo par email). Le nom du fichier doit comporter le nom du photographe et un numéro séquentiel au format NomPrenom1.jpg .
15. En soumettant vos impressions ou images numériques vous acceptez les conditions de participation et vous dégagez le CERN et le Club de Photo de CERN de toute responsabilité liée à votre travail.
16. Les organisateurs peuvent, à leur discrétion et sans explication, décider de ne pas éditer ou ne pas montrer les photographies soumises, en particulier lorsqu’il est manifeste que les conditions de participation ne sont pas remplies.

Arie van Praag, Maître FIAP Fédération Internationale de l'Art Photographique, accompagnera la procédure de sélection.

UTILISATION DES IMAGES

Le Club Photo du CERN se réserve le droit d’exposer publiquement et d’utiliser les photos sélectionnées dans toute publication ayant trait au CERN. Le CERN et le Club Photo du CERN se réservent le droit de publier les images à des fins non-commerciales sur Internet, dans des présentations et pour de la documentation.

RENVOI DES TIRAGES PAPIER

Les participants qui désirent que leurs photos leur soit retournées doivent fournir une enveloppe timbrée mentionnant leur nom et adresse.
 
PRIX

• Deux affiliations gratuites pour un an au Club Photo du CERN, donnant droit à l’utilisation illimitée de toute son infrastructure.
• Trois agrandissements format A1 d’une photo au choix du gagnant.
  
• De nombreux livres photo et cadeaux offerts par les expériences LHC.
